Gregg Mace Foundation Announces First-Ever Scholarship Recipient

camp hill graduate Luke Brown Honored with Prestigious Award

CAMP HILL, PA – The Gregg Mace Foundation is proud to announce the inaugural recipient of the Gregg Mace Foundation Scholarship, Luke Brown. The award, established to support local students with a passion for sports journalism and broadcasting, reflects the legacy of Gregg Mace, who was dedicated to mentoring aspiring professionals throughout his illustrious career.

Luke Brown, a 2024 graduate of Camp Hill High School and current student at Rowan University, has been recognized for his outstanding achievements in sports broadcasting and journalism. During his time as a student at Camp Hill, Luke became well-recognized in the area as a play-by-play broadcaster for high school sports in the Central Pennsylvania region and served as the Director Of Broadcasting and a Student Broadcaster for the Lions' athletics department. He also contributed to multiple local media outlets coverage of high school and minor-professional sports, working in roles ranging from play-by-play announcer, writer, camera operator and statistician.

In addition to his local contributions, Luke has gained experience as a broadcaster of PIAA Championship events as either a play-by-play broadcaster or sideline reporter. His passion for local sports and broadcasting mirrors the same passion that Gregg Mace had for Central Pennsylvania sports throughout his career.

The Gregg Mace Foundation, founded to continue Gregg’s lifelong passion for mentoring and supporting young sports journalists, aims to carry on his tradition of uplifting the next generation. Gregg’s career at WHTM-TV, where he became the station’s first-ever weekend sportscaster and later Sports Director, set the standard for local sports coverage in Central Pennsylvania. His devotion to mentoring over 150 aspiring journalists has had a lasting impact on the industry.

“I know how much people cared about Gregg Mace,” said Luke Brown. “You can only hope you have that much impact on the community. You can only hope that you can do what he was able to in that realm.”

“To be able to say I was mentioned in the same sentence as him is pretty special. I’m sure I’m going to have a better answer in five years than today, but I think it’s going to be more special in a year or two years to be able to say I was the first Gregg Mace scholarship award winner.”

As Luke Brown embarks on his academic career at Rowan University, he remains committed to pursuing his dreams as a sports broadcaster and journalist, building on the strong foundation he has laid already. We congratulate Luke on this accomplishment, and wish him the best in his continued career!
